ธาตุดินไม่เหมือนธาตุอื่นๆ เพราะดินไม่มีฤดูของตัวเองมีแต่การเปลี่ยนแปลงของดินที่เกิดขึ้นใน4ฤดู
- ดินแตกหรือโดนพรวนโดยธาตุไม้ในฤดูใบไม้ผลิ
- ดินโดนเผาโดนธาตุไฟในฤดูร้อน
- ธาตุดินผลิตเหล็กและแข็งแกร่งขึ้นในฤดูใบไม้ร่วงเพราะเหล็กที่อยู่ใต้ดินช่วยเพิ่มความแข็งแกร่ง
- ดินเย็นลงในฤดูหนาวทำให้เป็นดินที่ชุ่มชื่น

Earth impedes the flow of water, hence generally incompatible, except for a brief period in early Winter when some earth is needed to channel (manage) the copious water flow.

Compatible, but less so in Autumn when wood declines and is unable to absorb water (rot).

Contrary to popular notion, fire is not hostile to water. In fact, water needs fire in Winter and early Spring to thaw and become useful. Winter water without fire will be quite useless. Compatible.

Although metal produces water, uncontrolled production has undesirable effects (floods). Moreover, metal will sink (drown) in the water it produces. Hence incompatible.
